DESIGNERBABIES

DESIGNERBABIES are a 3-piece band mixing dirty noises, heavy distorted beats, catchy guitar riffs and infective vocal lines. Their fresh sound is highly influenced by grunge, industrial and electronic music.
DESIGNERBABIES formed in London in July 2008. It was a long journey for all three band members to get there: Jelle IJsbrandy (vocals/guitars) is from the Netherlands; Michael Benöhr-Riveros -a.k.a. Michi- (drums) is from Chile and Omar Perez Suarez (Bass) is from Spain. Together they combine the sounds and moods from their origins with the energy and vibe of London.
After finding each other through on-line music forums, DESIGNERBABIES set their home studio in Hackney, (east London) in which they did their first recordings. DESIGNERBABIES’ eponymous demo was issued in December 2008. It contained a remix of “King of Me” by German producer moO. In the meantime DESIGNERBABIES were already gigging in different venues around London and getting big attention from audiences and promoters.
In early 2009 DESIGNERBABIES started to work on new songs which brought them back to the studio in August. The band’s first EP FAVOURITE ENEMY was recorded at Voodoo Lounge Studios by engineer Jasper Irnt (Flemming Rasmussen, Greg Kurstin, Coolio, Lily Allen, Pink) and mastered by Sam John (Maximo Park, Aphex Twin, Chemical Brothers, Pendulum).
FAVOURITE ENEMY has lots of energy reaching a good balance between upfront rawness and laid back musicality. Using electronic sounds and beats DESIGNERBABIES add a new dimension to rock.
Jelle IJsbrandy describes the album’s name as referred to London. “Our favourite enemy is in a way this city. It fascinates you but at the same time it makes you sick. It’s a love and hate affair. You find the equivalent in our music; it is aggressive and sweet at the same time.”
